LET'S GO TO THE SCORECARDS, NO DON'T!

Pound4Pound Wear the maker of athletic sports apparel and accessories was the official sponsor of Tyson Cave in his WBA WORLD SUPER BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE FIGHT which took place Friday night,  December  11, 2014 vs Oscar Escandon.  The bout was the co-main event live on ESPN2 from Pechanga Resort & Casino, Temecula, California, USA.  According to the judges scorecards, Tyson who is referred to as “Prince of Hali” dropped a SD, the scores were as follow : Raul Caiz Jr 111-117 | judge: Tony Crebs 113-115 | judge: Max DeLuca 115-113.  After the decision was announced, Teddy Atlas the highly respected boxing analyst who was also calling the fight  went on an epic rant and referred to the judges decision as robbery and corruption in boxing! The video can be seen at:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZDjvGm0OVg   ESPN2 home viewers scored the fight in favor of Cave 120-108 sweeping all 12 rounds.

In other action over on HBO Saturday night, former two division title holder Tim Bradley clearly looked like he did what he needed to do in an action filled fight against the game Diego Chaves.  However, when Michael Buffer read the scorecards, the approx 2,500 in attendance were dumbfounded.  The official scores read, Judge Burt Clements scored it 115-113 for Bradley, Julie Lederman surprisingly had it 116-112 for Chaves and Craig Metcalfe had it 114-114. ESPN.com had it for Bradley 119-109.  Lederman’s father, HBO unofficial judge Harold Lederman, had it 116-112 for Bradley.

On the same card the co-main event  featured, Mauricio Herrera vs Jose Benavidez  for the WBA WORLD LIGHT WELTERWEIGHT TITLE.  It has appeared that Herrera had dominated the fight and did all he needed to retain his title, however the only 3 scores that counted were those of the three judges which cost Herrera his world title along with what may have been millions in purses. Max DeLuca and Eric Cheek scored the bout it 116-112 for Benavidez, while the third judge, the normally reliable Dave Moretti of Las Vegas had it 117-111 for Benavidez. Yahoo Sports scored it 117-111 for Herrera, as did Steve Carp of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Dan Rafael of ESPN.com and Steve Kim of UCN Live.com.  Herrera clearly landed the harder cleaner shots, the fans were in shock when the official decision was rendered. “I don’t understand anymore,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum, Bradley’s promoter, adding that he thought  the scoring was as bad as the scoring that gave Bradley a hugely controversial split-decision win against Manny Pacquiao in their first fight.

At Pound4Pound we sponsor many athletes in many different sports, but  Founder Steven Heid who is also a successful boxing manager has a huge love for the sport and likes to give back to the fighters.  “A sport I love so much that I have grown up watching with my father since the age of 7 is in serious jeopardy.  These decisions are horrendous, three robbery’s in one night.  If you walked into a bank with a gun and stole the cash, you would be locked up so why should this be any different?  It is time for change, it is time for a national commission.  These fighters train there butts off and fight to survive, they fight for their life and they fight for their family.  Being a professional boxer is not like being a MLB pitcher, if you have a bad day on the mound you go home and shake it off.  If you have a bad day in the square circle, as horrible as it sounds the reality is you may never go home. To see something like this happen makes me sick to my stomach. Along with the millions of dollars gambled on boxing events each year, these so called judges are gambling with peoples lives.  A federal investigation needs to be seriously considered.  Our sport is dying, who wants to watch a kid win 12 rounds decisively and lose the fight?  It’s a joke, no wonder why boxing the sport I love so much is on the decline while MMA has become the fastest growing sport in the world. In addition to a national commission there should be a discussion about health coverage and benefits. The NFL, NBA and MLB all have associations looking out for their athletes best interest.  Just recently the NFL agreed to pay a 765 million dollar settlement related to concusssions to 18,000 former players.  Boxers fight for peanuts compared to other athletes. The reality is that in boxing 1% of the fighters make 99% of the money.  Most of these fighters are coming off the streets trying to support their family and make a living, for most of them this is their full time job and all they know.  To see them get robbed like this is unacceptable, it is time for change!.” said Heid.

Tyson Cave fight will be for WBA World Title!

Pound4Pound Wear the maker of  men and women’s sports apparel is happy to announce a partnership with Tyson “Prince of Hali” Cave.

Tyson Cave is coming off a big win against the highly touted Sebastian Gauthier, which has now put in him in line to face hard hitting Columbian, Oscar Escandon.  The fight will take place Thursday night, Decemeber 11 live on ESPN2 from Temecula, California. The thirteen fight card is stacked with great talent and features; Austin Trout, Antonio Tarver; Edwin Rodrigquez, Sergio Mora, Marcus Browne, Terrell Gausha, Gerald Washington, Rico Ramos and several other high profile names. However, there is no question the main event tops them all, as Tyson Cave will be fighting for the WBA BANTAMWEIGHT WORLD TITLE.

Cave comes into the fight sporting a very impressive 24-2 (8Ko) record and hails from Halifax, Canada which he proudly represents. Escandons record is equally impressive at 23-1 (16Ko’s) and fights out of Ibague, Columbia. Escandon eliminated Cave from the 2004 Olympic trials, a fight Cave and many ringside observers believe he won.  The Columbian went on to fight in Athens, however did not medal.

This is a fight the fans want to see and and no doubt the biggest fight of both participants career.  The winner of this fight will go down in history as world champion which will lead to even bigger fights, along with bigger paydays.  Tyson Cave loves his hometown of Halifax, Canada thus sporting the name “Prince of Hali”.  There is no bigger opportunity for Tyson to put Halifax back on the map in terms of boxing history.  Halifax, Canada is not known as a boxing hot spot, however it did produce George “Little Chocolate” Dixon who stood at just 5’3  and weighed 87 pounds. Dixon in 1888 became the first African American to win a world title in any weight class. Other notable fighters from Halifax Canada include Kirk Johnson who lost in his two world title fights to John Ruiz and Vitali Klitschko, as well as Sam Langford who many believe was one of the best heavyweights in boxing history to never win a world title.  Langford beat Joe Gans and went 15 rounds with Jack Johnson while he weighed just 71 kg to Johnsons 84 kg.

Tune in Dec 11 to see an amazing night of boxing where the stakes are high, history remains in the balance and the book will soon be written

Pound4Pound Wear will be represented in Tyson’s corner and wishes him the best of luck in his world title bout!

Pound4Pound Wear in tonight's boxing main event!

Tune in tonight at 10 pm est. to Fox Sports 1 or Fox Deportes to see live boxing action from Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego, C.A.  The main event features the always hard hitting Ed Paredes vs. slick Alan Sanchez.  Paredes comes into Sanchez’s backyard for a 10 round scheduled main event.  Paredes has an impressive record of 35-4-1 with 23 big wins coming by way of knockout.  In Paredes 40 fights he has only been stopped once inside the distance dating all the way back to Sept. 2007.  Sanchez also enters the ring with an  impressive record of 14-3-1 with 8 wins coming by way of knockout.  In Sanchez’s 18 fights he has never once touched the canvas.  On paper this looks to be a very intriguing fight between two guys that both have iron chins and are very well conditioned.  This fight should play out with the taller  6 ‘ 1″  Sanchez looking stay on the outside and box, controlling the fight with his jab against the shorter 5″ 10 ” Paredes.  On the other hand, Paredes will certainly be looking to make Sanchez his 24th knock out victim.  Paredes is a strong fighter with a huge right hand that can end the fight at anytime.  This is going to be a very fan friendly fight in which you will see the bull vs the matador scenario being played out.  Can Sanchez stay on the outside and stick his game plan for 10 full rounds, or will the man they call the Lion press the action and come up with the big knockout? Tune in tonight to find out and let us know your thoughts and predictions in the comment section below.

Pound4Pound Wear has sponsored Ed Paredes for this fight. Paredes will be entering the ring sporting the  pound4pound logo.  Paredes will be wearing a t-shirt and hat from the new pound4pound clothing  line which launched just two weeks ago.  Paredes t-shirt and hat along with many other items, styles, colors and accessories can be purchased at www.pound4poundwear.com.

Pound 4 Pound letter from C.E.O. and Founder

A letter from CEO & Founder Steven Heid

Pound 4 Pound Clothing launched its website two weeks ago and we would like to take a moment to thank our customers. The response has been well received and sales are really starting to pick up. The t-shirts and hats are getting great reviews which is very exciting, especially since people have millions of other places to choose from where to spend their money.  I truly believe what sets us apart from our competitors is that we listen to our customers and take everything suggested to heart. We have seen several customers buy one of each t-shirt style we offer which we believe validates what we are doing and our belief.  This is a dream come true for us and we just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone involved and most importantly our customers.

We are currently working on new products that will include sweatshirts, women’s leggings, socks and dri-fit products.  We at pound4pound are very serious about our craft and want to make sure we offer the most comfortable and stylish apparel possible.
