Purses and payouts from UFC 182
We at Pound4Pound clothing are surprised by the purses the athletes from UFC 182 collected. The fight between reigning Pound4Pound champ Jon “Bones” Jones vs Daniel Cormier was billed as the biggest MMA fight of all time. Both combatants entered the ring with impressive records, Jones 20-1 and Cormier 15-0. Jones lone loss was a first round DQ against Matt Hamill, due to an illegal downward elbow blow in a fight he was dominating and heavily favored.
Jones dominated the fight and controlled the action winning a 5 round UD. Cormier had his moments, but was unsuccessful with his take down attempts not allowing him to put his wrestling experience to use. In the Co-Main the always crowd pleasing Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone won an uneventful three round UD vs Myles Jury. The Cowboy was not at all happy with Jury’s decision to just survive and not engage. After the fight Cerrone refused to leave Vegas until UFC President Dana White secured him another fight. It just so turns out that Benson Henderson opponent for UFC fight night 59, Eddie Alvarez was scratched due to the flu. Cerrone did not hesitate to step in and and replace Alvares for the Jan 18th date. This will make it two fights in two weeks for Donald Cerrone.
The gate at UFC 182 was surprisingly low, but PPV expectations are high. There was a respectable crowd of 11,575 in attendance which totaled 3.7 million dollars. The fight was expected to draw a PPV buy rate of approximately 750,000 buys. At the post fight press conference White did not give a final number, however he did state that they were going to blow that number out of the water. The UFC also raised the pay-per -view price an additional $5.00 due to the popularity of the event.
Based upon the approximate numbers before expenses not including other avenues of revenue such as merchandise, site fees, etc, the event will rake in well over $50,000,000.
